Adult Animated Revolutions

The Anti-Disney. Season 1: The Ralph Bakshi Season

Ralph Bakshi is the godfather of adult animation, the man who began it all and who paved the way for future animators to break away from the cosy child centred world of Disney animated films. His work not only broke new ground in terms of style and content, but also in his willingness to confront issues such as black exploitation in films. However Bakshi was not without controversey, his attempts at radical political satire would often be met by hostility by the people he was aiming to help and would see him cast out of the major film producing houses who were far to conservative to stomach his content and yet his films were huge successes not just critically and not just within a cult market but in the popular mainstream with Fritz the Cat grossing over 90 Million Dollars at the box office.  We hope that by showing his work here in the UK we can remind everyone that the likes of South Park, Beavis and Butt Head and many of todays more anarchic animated works, began with this man, Ralph Bakshi.
